Over the last decade, labor trends have changed. Nowadays, office work has become a highly sedentary activity which has become the norm. Prolonged sitting while keeping a poor posture has been linked to various health risks, of which lower back pain is the most common cause of job-related disability and a leading contributor to missed work days.
Back-up is a device that supports office workers to minimize the load on their (lower) back, by providing live-feedback on their posture, through a desk light. When maintaining a non-optimal posture, the light notifies the user gently through a quickly fading blue light. The desk light also stores the data of the users sitting posture, which is updated every minute, over the entire day, visualizes it and displays this information through the top of the object. This device enables the employee to reflect upon their “posture patterns”, and learn about their individual sitting behavior.
